Committed to Ending Food Waste

The month of April celebrates our Mother Earth. With National Gardening Day on April 14, Earth Day on April 22 and National Picnic Day on April 23, there are a bunch of different ways to get outdoors, get your hands dirty and enjoy our natural surroundings.

Spring is upon us and we are encouraged to open our windows and clean. Some of us join community programs to pick up waste on our streets, in our parks and on our beaches. Many of us enjoy gardening and planting different vegetables and flowers. Earth Day is oftentimes celebrated by planting a tree. It feels great when we are able to give back to the Earth that gives to us daily.

April 28 is a national holiday dedicated to stopping food waste. We use a lot of different food items in our gift baskets and sometimes we have a surplus that we know won't make it out of our shop before the 'Use By' date. Rather than throwing these products away, we prefer to donate them.

The Basket Corner and Le Caramel strive to find ways to shop local, use recyclable products and minimize waste. We are also committed to ending food waste. When products that we include in our gift baskets and gift boxes are about to expire, we donate them to our local San Diego Salvation Army Kroc Center.

As of April 2021, the Salvation Army Kroc Center - San Diego is offering food

distribution to any registered client. If you are in need of assistance, drive-through food distribution is:
